Hello! My family gets together tomorrow - but rather than celebrating the 4th of July, the main reason for the gathering is my dad's 91st birthday. We will also celebrate the birthdays of family members who have spring or summer birthdays - there's just too many of us to recognize all the birthdays individually!
I got busy in my studio designing birthday cards and I'll show off some of what I came up with.
Materials used:
- white card stock
- two pieces of black print scrapbook paper
- birthday cake shape cut with stencil from vintage ledger paper
- "happy birthday" stamped with black ink onto card stock scrap
- vintage black button
Materials used:
- white card stock
- art paper scrap
- piece from the cover of an old cookbook (solid dark red piece)
- birthday cake shape cut from facsimile of an old manuscript
- vintage button
- "happy birthday" stamped with black ink onto card stock scrap
Materials used:
- white card stock
- handpainted art paper scrap (painted by me)
- scrap from vintage calculus book (birthday boy is the young
Einstein type; I mean that as a compliment!)
- birthday cake shape cut from scrapbook paper
- star cut from scrapbook paper
- "happy birthday" stamped with red ink onto card stock scrap
One more card - this one is different due to a particular milestone birthday having been reached:
Any guesses how old one of my brothers now is?
Materials used:
- white card stock
- "5" and "10" cut from vintage Rook card game
- "50" is from a vintage numbers flashcard set
- small "5" and small "0" were cut from the same Rook cards that
the large "5" and the "10" had come from
- "happy birthday" stamped with green ink onto card stock scrap
- "x" and "=" were stamped with black ink
This card was fun to make! The others were too, although you'll notice that I made things easier on myself by using the same basic design. Not only that, but two of the cards have a red color scheme - they will go to a father/son pair, hence the deliberate similarity.
I'll show off my dad's card in the next post.
