Such was the case when I got out my modest supply of vintage St. Patrick's Day decorations to adorn my reproduction tabletop feather tree earlier this week. Check out these two shamrock shapes, which are made of lightweight cardboard:
Now check out their original price:
Two for a penny! Granted, at 2 1/4"h x 2 1/4"w, these aren't big, but still...What can you buy for a penny nowadays (other than a kiddie ride on the mechanical horse at our local Meijer) - let alone two for a penny?
Don't know how old my shamrocks are, but judging from the price, they've been around awhile. Purchased them, along with several other vintage St. Patrick's Day items (bridge tallies, greeting cards and some other shamrock shapes) in a bag for $2.00. This lucky find was courtesy of an antique mall booth in Marshall, Illinois.
It wasn't like finding the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but still a nice little purchase anyway - even if it cost more than a penny!
